Tequesta FL (Coral Cove Park), ICW Paddle

It had been awhile since we both paddled the Tequesta ICW together. For me, it was after the Coral Cove Park renovation to the road and parking area along Jupiter Island, which by the way, the Village of Tequesta did quite an excellent job with. The road was now a sleek ribbon of asphalt, with a freshly built wooden fence tracing the ICW, and sand paver parking on either side.

I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia for the once pocked, rain-filled ruts that had laced the shoulders, giving my truck, afterwards, the look of an off-road warrior.

Seriously, this stretch is used so much during the weekends by families and friends and their pets who come out, pitch some sun shading screens and just hang out in the beautiful crystal clear waters of the ICW.

Today, however, the ICW had its own agenda. The sky was a bit overcast with dots of rain to the north and after series of heavy downpours over the past week, the waters were muddied compounded with an ebbing low tide, the inlet greeted us with an ominous hue, like the depths of a smoky scotch.

The usual vibrancy of the water was lost, replaced by something darker, more mysterious. We only caught glimpses of a few turtles surfacing briefly, their presence fleeting, but the sea stars—Red Cushion or Bahama Sea Stars—were out in abundance, their shapes ghostly against the murky backdrop.

No video today, just some images to share.
