This 1995 Seaward Quest was handmade in Canada out of Kevlar and holds a rare color combination of dark grey deck over a light great hull with red accents on the hatches as well as the cockpit rim and protective side tape. This theme was carried into the roping for the front towline and rudder deploy/retract roping.
Fast on the water, very stable, and with the long nose slightly up-swept bow keeps the boat true though seas. The padded thigh braces add an extra level of stability and serve well for advanced paddling technique. Cross winds and wave action are not a problem–– drop the rudder and stay on course. This is an excellent day trip or touring expedition for the adventure kayaker with plenty of cargo space under two large capacity, bulkheaded (Front & Rear) hatches. The seat back and seat have been replaced and the added detachable velcro seat back overlay makes for long comfortable paddling. Comes equipped with deck compass, life saving vest (CO2), whistle and nylon day cockpit cover.
This kayak has had much of the deck hardware replaced and all the deck roping as well as the rudder guide wire. I love the added design of where the guide wire meets the foot peg strapping, which is something I will do going forward to prevent unnecessary strain on the guide wire. Also included in this rebuild are stainless steel shackles and thimbles for easy rudder detachment. The seat back strapping, seatback and seat cushion have been replaced to provide pure comfort. The adjustable foot pegs are controlled through quick release strapping and can be done on the fly— I will be carrying this design into all future kayaks— no more having to get out of the boat to adjust the pedal length, simply reach down to your side pull or release individually until you feel the perfect length. There is also a bungee that is attached to the foot peg and crosses over to the other for added control— also a nice feature I will include in future rebuilds. These foot pegs can handle any length paddler. There is a tray just below the front cockpit for putting items such as cellphones, etc, which is out of the way and a nice alternative to day hatches hanging between your legs. The front and rear hatch covers have had weatherstripping added for a secure tight seal, with easy unlocking of covers using new bungee buttons (love these). I can’t see these hatches blowing off at 70 mph on the highway. The front and rear carry handles have been slightly modified for comfort (cool V-handle). Minimal scratching and looks beautiful.
This is an excellent kayak for beginners through advanced expedition travelers— one boat I seriously considered keeping for myself after this restoration, but I have two other boats waiting for me to get to and I can’t keep them all, but wish I could.
